Artist's Biography
Idell Weiss paints in diverse styles and with varied media. Her work may be described as “landscapes—representational and otherwise”.
She is a native Californian whose paintings reflect her appreciation of nature’s diversity in her home state. This is apparent in her
landscapes and cityscapes and also to some extent even in her abstract work. She has traveled extensively throughout the state and also
abroad, taking numerous photographs to use as suggestion and foundation for future work. She often carries a camera either on walks or
in her car and will stop briefly to capture an outlook or scene that strikes an immediate response.
While many of Idell’s paintings are somewhat impressionistic landscapes, she also simultaneously works on abstracts, some of which are
suggestive of organic forms, while others are non-objective. She lives in San Francisco and has included some of her favorite steep
outlooks as subject matter for several of her pieces.
She frequently has work accepted in various juried competitions both in California and other national venues and in corporate and
private collections. One of these competitions was juried by Nathan Oliveira, another by Ruth Asawa. She has received prizes and cash
awards through the National League of American Penwomen and also other art leagues. Her paintings may be seen in such publications as Art
of Northern California, 2003, and American Art Collector, 2005-2008, published by Alcove Books, Berkeley, CA.
Idell Weiss currently is showing paintings at the Kathleen McMahon Fine Art Gallery,
